Myopic Value of Information in Influence Diagrams

چکیده
We present a method for calculation of my opic value of information in influence dia grams (Howard & Matheson, 1981) based on the strong junction tree framework (Jensen et al., 1994). An influence diagram specifies a certain or der of observations and decisions through its structure. This order is reflected in the corre sponding junction trees by the order in which the nodes are marginalized. This order of marginalization can be changed by table ex pansion and use of control structures, and this facilitates for calculating the expected value of information for different information scenarios within the same junction tree. In effect, a strong junction tree with expanded tables may be used for calculating the value of information between several scenarios with different observation-decision order. We compare our method to other methods for calculating the value of information in in fluence diagrams.

Efficient non-myopic value-of-information computation for influence diagrams
In an influence diagram (ID), value-of-information (VOI) is defined as the difference between the maximum expected utilities with and without knowing the outcome of an uncertainty variable prior to making a decision. It is widely used as a sensitivity analysis technique to rate the usefulness of various information sources, and to decide whether pieces of evidence are worth acquisition before a...

متن کاملTime Sensitive Sequential Myopic Information Gathering
DIGS (Decision Support Information Gathering System) uses the value of information to guide the information gathering process and uses the gathered information to provide the decision recommendations to the human users. DIGS uses an influence diagram as a modeling tool. In this paper, we create a model to represent the investment scenario of a novice stock investor. By using the sequential myop...
متن کاملA Single Supplier Procurement Model With Random Yield
In this paper, we develop a procedure for selecting a supplier. Suppliers are characterized by their lead time, price and quality (random yield). Each purchased item is acceptable with a given probability and independent of the others. We assume the demands are deterministic with no set-up cost and backordering is allowed. For each supplier, an optimal ordering policy is developed. We prove the...
متن کاملValue of Evidence on Influence Diagrams
In this paper, we introduce evidence propagation operations on influence diagrams and a concept of value of evidence, which measures the value of experimentation. Evidence propagation operations are critical for the computation of the value of evidence, general update and inference operations in normative expert systems which are based on the influence diagram (generalized Bayesian network) par...
